Collector’s Notes
This Zygarde card is a Holo Rare from the celebrated Japanese high-class set GX Ultra Shiny (SM8b), released in late 2018. This set is legendary among modern collectors for its massive “Shiny Vault”—a huge subset of rare Shiny Pokémon cards. While this Zygarde is from the main set, its presence in such a popular release makes it a memorable card from the Sun & Moon TCG era.
The illustration is by the master artist Mitsuhiro Arita, one of the original 1996 TCG illustrators and the talent behind the iconic Base Set Charizard. Arita’s work is renowned for its dynamic lighting and realistic textures, which are on full display here. He masterfully depicts Zygarde emerging from the shadows of a dark cavern, with light catching the rocky surfaces, perfectly capturing the Pokémon’s mysterious and powerful nature.
Zygarde is a perfect fit for the Geopik collection. As the “Order Pokémon,” its lore is deeply connected to the health of the planet, and it is said to live deep underground, monitoring the world’s ecosystem. Its body is composed of geometric “Cells” and “Cores,” giving it an almost crystalline structure that resonates with mineralogical themes. Arita’s choice to place it in a rocky, subterranean environment reinforces this connection, making it a powerful representation of the earth’s hidden guardians.
