Collector’s Notes
This Mismagius is a 1st Edition Holo Rare from the Japanese set Bandit Ring (XY8). As a 2015 release, it represents the later part of the XY TCG era, which is notable for its powerful abilities and dynamic artwork. The 1st Edition stamp adds a nice layer of collectability to this already striking card. The “shattered ice” holographic pattern of the era works beautifully with the chaotic energy in the art.
The artwork by Ayaka Yoshida is incredibly vibrant and atmospheric. Yoshida is known for illustrations that skillfully use light and colour to create a sense of energy and motion. This piece is a prime example, with Mismagius at the centre of a swirling vortex of pink, purple, and orange magical power. It perfectly captures the feel of a Pokémon that, according to its lore, chants incantations to affect its foes.
As a Friend of Geopik, Mismagius provides a wonderful thematic link to the world of folklore and crystal magic. For centuries, real-world cultures have believed that certain gems and minerals, like quartz, amethyst, and obsidian, can act as conduits or amplifiers for mystical energy. Mismagius, a being of pure magic and incantations, is the perfect Pokémon to represent this concept. One can easily imagine it using the crystals from our collection’s “Crown Jewels” exhibit as a focus for its powerful spells.
