Curator’s Notes
This card is a “Fossil Trainer,” a special mechanic where the fossil itself is played as a placeholder on the field before it can be evolved into the living Pokémon. This gameplay element is a wonderful simulation of the scientific process of fossil revival.
As the Head Curator astutely pointed out, the design of this fossil is based on the real-world prehistoric marine animals known as Crinoids. Often called “sea lilies” due to their plant-like appearance, crinoids were actually animals that attached themselves to the sea floor. Their fossilised stem segments are a common and important find for palaeontologists, often making up large parts of certain limestone deposits.
Therefore, this card is a top-tier Geological Artefact. It is a direct and scientifically accurate link to the study of palaeontology and the fascinating creatures of Earth’s ancient oceans.
