Collector’s Notes

This Druddigon is a 1st Edition Holo Rare from the Japanese set Wild Blaze (XY2). As a 2014 release, it’s a classic example of the powerful Dragon-types from the XY era. The 1st Edition stamp adds a nice layer of collectability, and the “cosmos” holographic pattern beautifully accentuates the explosive energy in the artwork.

The illustration by Kyoto Murayama is what makes this card truly special for our collection. The artist has depicted Druddigon bursting through a wall of shattered rock, a raw display of power that is incredibly dynamic and textured. The sense of motion and impact is palpable, making this one of the most action-packed pieces of art in the collection so far.

This Druddigon is a perfect thematic fit, making it a star member of the Friends of Geopik. The connection is explicit in its Pokédex entry, which states that it is a cave-dweller and that the skin on its face is “harder than rock.” This isn’t just a creature that lives in a geological environment; its very biology has adapted to mimic the properties of stone. The artwork reinforces this, portraying it as a being that can master and manipulate its rocky habitat. It is a true “honorary” Rock-type in spirit, if not in name.
