Collector’s Notes
This Haxorus is a 1st Edition Holo Rare from the Japanese set Bandit Ring (XY8). As a late XY-era card from 2015, it features the powerful gameplay mechanics and high HP that were becoming common for final evolution Pokémon. The 1st Edition stamp adds a nice touch of collectability to this already impressive card, which also features the vibrant “shattered ice” holographic pattern.
The artwork by hatachu is exceptionally well-suited to the Geopik collection. The artist has placed Haxorus in what appears to be a ruined colosseum or ancient stone city, complete with crumbling pillars and braziers. This strong architectural and archaeological element gives the card a profound sense of history and place. The blue energy swirling around Haxorus’s hands provides a striking contrast to the grey stone of the ruins.
As a Friend of Geopik, this Haxorus offers one of the strongest visual and thematic links we’ve seen. The setting, an ancient city of stone, directly connects to geology through architecture and the use of natural materials. Furthermore, Haxorus’s lore is explicitly geological. Its famous “axe-like” tusks are described as being incredibly hard and durable, capable of cutting steel. This suggests a composition of a hyper-dense mineral, harder than anything found in the human world. It is a creature whose biology has evolved to mimic the properties of the toughest materials found in geology.
