Collector’s Notes
This Flabébé is a 1st Edition Common card from the Japanese set Wild Blaze (XY2). While Commons are the most frequent cards in a set, the 1st Edition stamp marks this as a lovely artefact from the initial 2014 print run, adding a touch of historical value. This card is also the first stage in the evolutionary line of the Florges we previously catalogued.
The artwork by 5ban Graphics is particularly notable for its unique style. It combines the clean, 3D model of Flabébé with a photorealistic background depicting a beautiful alpine meadow. This artistic choice grounds the fantastical Pokémon in a real-world environment, highlighting its connection to nature. The vibrant blues, pinks, and whites of the wildflowers create a stunning natural tapestry.
As a “friend of the collection,” Flabébé’s link to geology is subtle but essential. The card’s artwork places it in a rocky, mountainous habitat, the exact kind of environment where specific alpine flowers thrive. The types of flowers that grow in any given area are entirely dependent on the soil composition, which is determined by the underlying geology. Flabébé’s symbiotic relationship with its flower—which the Pokédex says is “part of its body”, makes it a living indicator of the local soil mineralogy. It is a beautiful representation of how life adapts to and draws strength from its geological environment.
