Curator’s Notes
This Topsun Omastar is a cornerstone piece for the GeoPik Museum. Released before the official TCG, these cards were distributed in packs of bubblegum and represent the very first wave of Pokémon merchandise. As a “Blue Back,” this card comes from the initial, rarest print run, making it a highly significant historical artefact.
The specimen itself is a perfect thematic fit. Omastar is one of the original Fossil Pokémon, revived in the games from a Helix Fossil. This connects it directly to the real-world sciences of palaeontology and geology. It is based on the ammonite, an extinct marine cephalopod whose fossilised spiral shells are iconic and crucial index fossils used by geologists to date rock layers. This card is not just a geological Pokémon; it is a representation of a prehistoric creature brought back to life, a core theme of the museum.
