Collector’s Notes
This Clefable is a 1st Edition Common card from Rising Fist (XY3), a Japanese set released in 2014, known for its focus on Fighting-type Pokémon. While a Common card, its 1st Edition stamp adds a nice touch of collectability, and the artwork comes from a very special artist.
The illustration is by Atsuko Nishida, one of the most important designers in Pokémon history. Nishida is credited with creating some of the most famous Pokémon of all time, including the iconic design for Pikachu. Her art style is often soft, whimsical, and full of character, which is beautifully demonstrated here. Clefable is depicted in a serene, sun-dappled forest, perfectly capturing its gentle and shy nature.
While Clefable isn’t a Rock-type, its lore is famously connected to the moon and extraterrestrial objects. Clefairy are known to gather to dance under the full moon and are rumoured to have come from space. Their evolution item in the games is the “Moon Stone,” a mysterious, glowing rock. This celestial connection links Clefable to astromineralogy—the study of minerals in meteorites and other space rocks—making it a fascinating thematic neighbour to the more earthbound members of the Geopik collection.
