Collector’s Notes

This Mr. Mime is a 1st Edition Common card from the Japanese set Tidal Storm (XY5), released in 2014. As a “Common” card, it wasn’t a rare pull, but its 1st Edition stamp gives it a nice touch of collectability from the initial print run of this classic XY-era set. Commons like this are the backbone of any set, providing interesting gameplay mechanics.

The artwork by TOKIYA is bright and characterful, perfectly capturing Mr. Mime’s playful and slightly bizarre nature. TOKIYA is known for clean, expressive illustrations that really bring out the personality of the Pokémon. The dynamic pose and the sparkling effects at Mr. Mime’s feet give the card a sense of energy and performance, as if it’s right in the middle of a pantomime routine.

While Mr. Mime has no direct connection to geology, it’s a welcome addition that arrived alongside more thematic cards like Carbink. We can, however, draw a fun, metaphorical line to our collection’s theme. Mr. Mime’s Pokédex entry notes that the invisible walls it creates can become real, physical barriers. One could imagine these psychic walls being as solid and unyielding as a wall of granite—a geological force created by pure thought!
