Our seventh international specimen is also from the 2019 set Cosmic Eclipse. This card provides a stark contrast to the previous, more serene Onix from the same set, showcasing a much more aggressive and action-packed interpretation of the Rock Snake Pokémon.

Collector’s Notes
The artwork by ohamami is incredibly dynamic. It depicts Onix erupting from the ground in a shower of dirt and shattered rock. The low-angle perspective makes the viewer feel as if they are right there on the ground as this colossal creature bursts forth. The use of a gritty, almost monochromatic colour palette for the art, with just a hint of yellow light, gives the scene a very raw and powerful feel.
For our Geological Pokémon exhibit, this card is the perfect representation of excavation and seismic upheaval. The attack “Dig Deep” perfectly matches the illustration, reinforcing Onix’s identity as a master tunneller. The flavour text, shared with the other Onix from this set, once again provides a wonderful ecological link, explaining how Onix’s destructive geological activity is a creative force for other Pokémon like Diglett. This specimen captures the violent, earth-shattering power of geology in motion.
