Collector’s Notes
This Klawf is an Uncommon card from the Japanese set Raging Surf. The artwork by Yuya Oka is wonderfully energetic, showing the Pokémon bursting from a rocky cliff face. The card’s attacks are cleverly designed to work together: “Boiled Press” makes Klawf Burned, which then powers up “Hysterical Scissors” to a massive 190 damage.
Klawf is a premier Geological Pokémon. A pure Rock-type in the video games, its entire identity is built around its habitat. Its Japanese name, Gakegani, literally means “Cliff Crab,” and its English name combines “claw” and “cliff.” The Pokédex entry further solidifies this by describing its unique method of hunting from cliff faces. It is a creature whose biology and behaviour have been shaped entirely by its rocky, vertical environment. As is standard for Rock-types in the TCG, it is represented by the Fighting type.
